I found Amara had passed from this world, over one of my visits to the West Coast. I had discovered her, after not hearing from her about our meeting over the spiritual holidays and our planned slumber party. I drove to her apartment and called for a wellness check when she did not answer her door, as I did not have a key. What unfolded after was a tremendous amount of emotional navigating, having to interact with paramedics, police, the death inspector, and the rescuing of both her poor beloved cats Sky and Moon, as well as her beloved Snake Lily. Thank goodness I had a very long time friend's support for the various responsibilities I took that following week. She had been ill for a very long time. It was so very tragic for her to leave that way, but simultaneously, she was with her "children" Sky, Moon, and Lily, whom she adored, and she was home, rather than in a hospital (which she loathed). I believe her highest knowing knew it was okay to leave, she knew I would take care of things for her. I miss her very much, and if you have come to this dedication page, I am sure you do as well, sweet Being...
I contacted her Mother, and a few friends I knew of. I found her Will and I have been in communication with those in it. My Mother, (whom Amara loved), thankfully adopted her sweet familiar boys (cats), and they are very happy with my parents. My dear friend, (who I introduced to Amara years ago - and whom Amara had developed a friendship with), has been temporarily caring for Lily her snake familiar, until I can drive her back with me to the South-East where I have been residing for several years. I will be adopting her, as Lily and I bonded in 2010.
Her parents flew out from Florida. At her mothers request, I pre-arranged the funeral services for them and performed the service as a legal minister (and trained priestess), and then she was cremated. There was no time to arrange a formal ceremony as her body needed to become ashen as soon as possible. I have the majority of her ashes which she wished to be scattered in Hawaii, which I intend to follow through on sometime this year, as soon as I am able.
I also performed a spiritual service for her in her sanctuary, cleansed the space of her energy, and handled all of her personal affects to the best of my ability, (with the gracious assistance of our mutual friend), in a very short amount of time. I was on borrowed time and had very little funds. My parents helped me the best they could.
I want to apologize for not creating an announcement sooner, but another dear mutual friend of Amara's posted a small announcement for her on Facebook. I had just been through a hurricane flood situation in October, was in the middle of the last three classes of my bachelor degree in psychology, my parents health issues, work, my husband's father on his deathbed, and the election results... there was so much going on, I just didn't have anything left to give. I had to focus on college as I was barely able to follow through, so please forgive me. I have two days left now and I am writing this instead of working on my final paper, as it has been weighing heavy on my heart.
She was my Beloved Sister since 2003, we were very close and our relationship had many commonalities, especially on the Spiritual and Otherworldly planes. We were magickally connected, and we were pretty certain that we knew each other before. We connected also on the Star Being understanding. I will never forget meeting her at one of the outdoor renegade music festivals in the North-West. She was walking with four other beautiful faeries a bit away from where I was. We caught glimpses of each others eyes and it was as if a magnet was pulling us together. I instinctively walked over and offered nectarines to everyone and that is when we met. I stayed regularly in touch and I visited her when she lived in Hawaii. We talked of doing theatre together one day but we never could manifest that as I was living in the South-East. However, I visited her whenever I came to see my parents who also lived in Oregon.
Amara was an incredible Being, a true companion to all living Creatures. She was fiercely Vegan for years. Animals were attracted to her, they knew she was an ally. She danced in many spiritual practices and circles, both literally and figuratively. She was one of thee most eclectic and creatively divine witches that I knew, and her artwork was powerful. Whoever has pieces of hers should count themselves lucky. Amara was a musician, a thespian, a priestess, an otherworldly Being, a creatrix, a shapeshifter, a cosmic jester, a Queen, and I am sure, many other things - but especially a MUSE... yet while aspects of her were fiery and commanding, she was also simultaneously soft, gentle, loving, compassionate, an Angel. She had many messages to share. She had her feet firmly in the blackness of night as well as in the nature of day. Amara had touched many hearts, minds, and spirits.
In closing for now I just wish to say that initially, there was an idea to have a Celebration of Life for Amara, in the Spring or Summer of 2025 in Portland, amongst a couple of her closer Sisters and I - (and I had many fanciful thoughts around a gathering-event), but I am not sure I can be part of planning it if there is one, due to the nature of the complexities of my own life currently. So I have created this page, as a more permanent and personal fixture around the beauty of Amara's existence, for her loved ones to share anything they wish in the guest book. I also intend to post many photos of her here, some of her artwork, and her writings. It will take some time but I will try to work on it weekly.
Thank you for your patience. I hope you will accept this offering as a token of honoring Amara's Friendships with you, and a way for Her Loved Ones to Connect, (outside of Facebook). I look forward to everyone sharing photos and stories on the guest book so that we can all Celebrate the Beauty of Amara's Life.
